Association celebrates World Environment Day

Malayali Association recently held a beach cleaning and tree-planting event in conjunction with the World Environment Day.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness on marine pollution and promote sustainable practices.

Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad highlighted the importance of community involvement in tackling environmental issues at the event.

“Today’s effort is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a common purpose. Every piece of trash removed from our beach is a step towards a healthier and cleaner environment for all,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malayali Association president Sajeev Kumar said, “We are committed to sustainable practices that protect our environment and ensure the well-being of future generations.”

The event saw 40 bags of garbage collected by the volunteers, before proceeding with the tree-planting, poster presentation and a skit by the Education Club on the importance of reducing plastic use, the impact of pollution on marine ecosystems, and ways to contribute to environmental conservation.

The event concluded with a short ceremony where the association presented certificates of appreciation to the winners of the poster-making competition.

Volunteers also received e-certificates for their participation.
