Asmawi takes the lead in Baiduri Masters

The leadership in the 25th Baiduri Masters changed hands once again in day four of the competition after Asmawi Ismail carded a score of 69 at the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club in Kampong Mentiri yesterday.

The new tournament leader led the pack which consist of national golfer Bryan Chiew Chun Hao, top prospect Md Irwan Hamid and Suhaimi bin Haji Ibrahim – a multiple winner in the Pantai Mentiri Golf Course – all of whom shares the same score.

The country’s undoubtedly most in-form player in recent times, Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Haji Alli, who is gunning for his first Baiduri Masters title, is a stroke behind with a score of 70.

Former champion Seruji bin Haji Setia is also two shots behind the leader with a score of 71.

The popular charity golf tournament, which made a comeback after years of absence, has so far attracted a total of 734 entries.

The huge turnout rate has brought a sense of excitement to Baiduri Bank Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Business Development cum Brunei Masters Vice President Pengiran Azaleen bin Pengiran Dato Haji Mustapha.

He said, “It is very encouraging to see the local golfing community and players from around the region come together for this event with a cause after a three-year hiatus.”

Pengiran Azaleen added, “The Baiduri Masters is an opportunity for our golfers to showcase their skills, connect and develop bonds over a round of golf whilst contributing to the greater good.”

The second weekend of the Baiduri Masters also saw four new golfers challenging for the Ladies Gross title.

However, Almas Syazwani Kamis remains on pole position with a score of 7-over. – Fadhil Yunus
