Asia-Pacific health security in the spotlight

Health security in the Asia-Pacific region became the main focus of the Regional Conference for Parliaments of the Asia-Pacific Region on Global Health Security held in Bangkok, Thailand from December 2 to 3.

The conference which was jointly organised by the Thai Parliament and Inter-Parliamentary Union in collaboration with the World Health Organisation brought together more than 90 participants from parliamentarians, health experts, and representatives of international organisations, discussing and charting a path towards a safer and more sustainable health future.

President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand Wan Muhamad Noor Matha in a keynote speech emphasised the importance of cross-border solidarity and called on members of parliament to strengthen international cooperation in dealing with increasingly complex health threats.

He also stressed that only with collective action, global health security can be achieved.

Throughout the conference, participants focused on critical issues such as preparations to face health emergencies, strengthening regional cooperation, as well as policy adaptation to face future threats.

The main discussion session focused on universal health coverage, the impact of climate change on health, and the role of technological innovation in strengthening the response capacity to health crisis.

A delegation from the Legislative Council (LegCo) was represented by YB Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Md Yusof; YB Dayang Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin and YB Awang Haji Mohammad Danial @Tekpin bin Ya’akub.
