The Department of Community Development under the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports on Wednesday launched the “Art for All” exhibition in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IPWD) 2024. The exhibition, featuring over 100 artworks including paintings, handicrafts, models, and replicas, is open to the public from December 18, 2024, to January 10, 2025, at Gallery 4 of the Brunei Energy Hub, Dermaga Diraja in the capital.
The event was officially launched by Acting Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah.
This year marks the third edition of the “Art for All” Exhibition, with the theme “Space”, focusing on the wonders of outer space, astronomy, and celestial phenomena. The artworks on display incorporate creative interpretations of planets, stars, comets, nebulae, and other cosmic elements, blending science with imagination. Highlights include spacecraft models and astronaut replicas, providing a unique exploration of the universe through art.
The exhibition features the creative works of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from Pusat Bahagia in all four districts, participating schools, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Schools involved include Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School, Lambak Kiri Secondary School, Awang Semaun Secondary School, Anggerek Desa Primary School, Kapok Muara Primary School, and Lambak Kanan Jalan 49 Primary School. Participating NGOs include Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al Hajjah Maryam, the Society for Management of Autism Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER), La Vida, and ABLE.
The objectives of the exhibition are to establish art as a platform that provides opportunities and equitable rights for PWDs, encourage their active participation in the arts, foster social integration, and raise public awareness about the talents and artistic contributions of PWDs.
The “Art for All” Exhibition invites the public to experience the creativity of PWDs and explore the celestial-inspired artworks on display. Visitors are welcome to the exhibition until January 10, 2025, to witness the talents and artistic vision of these remarkable artists. – James Kon
