Arbitration centre hosts peacebuilding talk

The Brunei Darussalam Arbitration Centre (BDAC) recently organised a fireside chat to raise awareness on the practice of mediation.

The discussion was attended by 29 in-person participants comprising government officials, private sector individuals, students and academics, as well as some 50 individuals attending virtually from Indonesia and India.

The guest speaker was Anil Changaroth, a mediator from Changaroth Chambers LLC, Singapore. Panellists included Camran Nadeem Riaz from HLR Law and Nur’ Azizah binti Ahmad from AIP Law. Lenny Rahman from HLR Law was the moderator.

During the session, Changaroth shared his experiences in mediation practice, including court annexed, institutional, ad-hoc, and international investor state mediation.

He discussed several aspects of the mediation framework such as process, people management and problem-solving skills, culture, applying the Singapore Convention on Mediation, restorative practice and applying emotional intelligence quotient to mediation coaching, assessments and judging moots.

BDAC was established to provide arbitration and mediation services to meet the needs of domestic and international users.
