The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) is considering the application for an alternative local airline by Gallop Air Sdn Bhd and AeroAsia Holdings Corporation to be based in the Sultanate, considering it is now at the pre-application stage.
Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha revealed this while delivering his ministry’s budget during the 20th session of the Legislative Council meeting yesterday.
Their application received local media coverage and MTIC through the Department of Civil Aviation is considering the proposal to increase the number of flights, passenger movement and cargo towards optimising the Brunei International Airport capacity at present and its expansion, if needed.
Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary added that the proposer should acquire Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) and Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO).
“To obtain AOC, the proposer needs to undergo five assessments in the aspect of safety, business modality, efficiency, operational preparedness and aircraft type approval to meet the standards of civil aviation and Brunei Aviation Requirement which are based on International Civil Aviation Organisation standards,” he said.
For the type of aircraft approval, the reference standards used for aircraft possessing certificates is issued by recognised agencies such as Europe Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA US) or Canada. – Azlan Othman
