App revolutionising aquaculture practices wins award

‘Alquatic Tech’ from ODE Aquaculture and Agriculture Company Sdn Bhd recently received a Merit award under the Technology – IoT of the Year category at the 22nd Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2023 in Hong Kong recently.

ODE Aquaculture and Agriculture Company Project Team Leader Dr Lim Tiong Hoo said, “AIquatic Tech is a pioneering smart Internet of Things (IoT) system developed to revolutionise aquaculture practices.

“Focusing on prawn farming, it provides real-time monitoring of pond conditions, enabling farmers to make informed decisions and ensure optimal growth environments.

“The system employs artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to estimate prawn growth accurately, enhancing efficiency in breeding and harvest cycles. AIquatic app also offers advantages for consumers in the fish market.”

Meanwhile, ODE Project Team Member Dayangku Dr Nurun Najeebah Az-Zahra binti Pengiran DSP Haji Mohammad Tashim said, “It was an overwhelming and humbling experience. It is a recognition of the hardwork and dedication of all team members, and I am immensely proud and honoured to be a part of it.”

On the invaluable experience gained from competing in the APICTA, Dayangku Dr Nurun Najeebah said, “While I always strive to push myself, this competition challenged me in ways I never anticipated.

“It pushed me to experiment with emerging technologies. The recognition we received for our efforts has been truly motivating. It shows the potential of our work and inspires us to continue improving our product.”

Dr Lim added, “Making AIquatic Tech accessible to both farmers and consumers is a significant milestone, thanks to ongoing research and development conducted at Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

“We are committed to expand the app’s features and capabilities, with a particular focus on supporting various aquatic species within the aquaculture industries in the ASEAN region.

“We will be looking to participate in next year’s APICTA event in Brunei.” – James Kon
