Participants of the 78 times Khatam Al-Quran for mukim and village consultative councils members, and school and higher learning institutions students nationwide, held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration, shared their gratitude at being chosen for the grand event.
Some 1,708 participants representing mukim and village consultative councils as well as various schools and educational institutions concluded the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony yesterday.
In an interview with the Bulletin, religious teacher Rosnah binti Haji Mohamed shared that she was chosen as one of the Takhtim participants representing the Tutong District.
She also supervised 10 Primary 4 students from the district participating at the event.
“This is the first time they are participating in this special occasion,” she said, adding that the children were all under 12. “We are very excited and honoured to be representing the school and be part of the hundreds of participants.”
She said to be selected for the event, the students must be fluent in Al-Quran and Tajwid during the selection period. Some of the students were able to recite 15 verses or more, and some had already completed a Khatam Al-Quran.
“After the selection process, they undergo a lot of training, with constant monitoring with help from their parents,” she said.
Meanwhile Nurazrina binti Haji Besar, an Arabic language teacher expressed gratitude to be able to participate in the ceremony for the first time.
She was one of the Dikir participants, and also supervised a number of students.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that is hard to come by and Alhamdulillah, this year is my rezeki to be selected and contribute to the Dikir.”
She added on that she has been very active with Dikir activities, and also active in Takhtim and Rattib Al-Attas and other religious activities.
She said religious activities are part of the school’s co-curricular activities, and she actively encourages students to take part and gain new experiences.
