When you’re in the company of passionate individuals, their zest for their pursuits can ignite a spark within you. The shared experiences and the exchange of ideas can shape your own preferences and ultimately contribute to your personal growth.
I’ve always been keen to pick up new hobbies and interests to fill my time, especially now that I’ve hit an age where it’s crucial to switch gears from work mode and unwind, and I feel that my colleague and fellow feature writer Wardi’s love for cosy games rubbed off on me a little.
I say this affectionately as I’ve found myself immersed in the cosy world of Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
MEET HELLO KITTY AND FRIENDS
The game stands out as a superbly crafted game exclusively found within the Apple Arcade library, offering a delightful blend of humour and entertaining quests.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a heart-warming simulation experience that invites players to bask in the delightful company of their beloved Sanrio characters. Developed by Sunblink, known for their card-battling MOBA HEROish, and published under the charming Sanrio banner, the game draws inspiration from gaming classics like Animal Crossing.
However, while it introduces refreshing concepts to some aspects of the genre, it may leave players yearning for a bit more in certain areas.
CHARMING GAMEPLAY
It’s cute, it’s definitely cosy, and you don’t feel the rush to finish quest after quest.
At the outset of the game, you’re presented with the choice of embarking on this adventure solo or in the company of friends. Once that decision is made, it’s time to fashion your very own animal character, with the delightful options of becoming a bird, a cat, or a dog.
Naturally, I chose a cat, but you can always change your animal character and its appearance any time throughout your gameplay.
In the following game sequence, Hello Kitty takes centre stage, offering a warm introduction as you find yourself aboard an airplane.
During the segment, you receive a concise tutorial, guiding you through the ropes of character control and interaction with fellow adventurers, all before you take a daring leap from the airplane onto a deserted island. Your paramount mission on this enigmatic island? To embark on a quest of restoration, breathing life back into this forgotten gem.
Exploring the island, you’ll be able to unlock several areas where the Hello Kitty friends are based at, activate fast travel via mailboxes, go into hidden caves to collect treasure, and craft things on your own to unlock more quests.
One of the most sought-after quests is the challenge of capturing a photograph of the ever-elusive Gudetama. This quest has become the talk of the island as players embark on a whimsical journey to snap a picture of the famous, and often lethargic, egg character.
Gudetama’s penchant for hiding in peculiar and unexpected locations adds a delightful twist to the quest, transforming it into a delightful game of hide-and-seek.
As players search high and low, they not only sharpen their photography skills but also become engrossed in the sheer fun of tracking down this lovable and elusive character amidst the island’s picturesque landscapes.
When I started playing the game, I was on my phone until my battery was completely drained. Clearly, I couldn’t get over the cuteness of it all.
MEET THE CHARACTERS!
Naturally, a Hello Kitty Island Adventure wouldn’t be complete without the presence of Hello Kitty herself. On this charming island, she takes on the role of running a delightful café, and you, as the player, have the unique opportunity to assist her with tasks.
In return for your help, Hello Kitty graciously imparts her knowledge to you, teaching you the art of baking in the process.
Furthermore, the game introduces the beloved character My Melody, who operates a charming gift shop on the island.
My Melody becomes your go-to for daily gifts, and the game begins by assigning you the heart-warming task of distributing these thoughtful gifts to all the other friendly residents of the island.
However, some of these residents reside underwater, which presents an exciting challenge.
To reach them, you’ll need to acquire specialised diving gear to make the underwater gift deliveries possible.
Cinnamoroll is an endearing and selfless pup, always eager to lend a helping hand to his friends whenever they require
assistance.
Despite his shyness, he exudes a warm and welcoming demeanour, making him a beloved figure among the island’s residents.
What truly sets Cinnamoroll apart is his extraordinary ability to take flight by gracefully gliding through the air, aided by his remarkably oversized ears.
He’s the one you need to make friends with to learn how to activate fast travel within the islands in the game.
Another character included in the game is the ever beloved Kuromi. With her penchant for all things eerie and her creative spirit, she plays a vital role in infusing a spine-tingling charm into the theme park, ensuring that visitors have a thrillingly good time.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, the game features a special set of spooky quests curated by Kuromi herself, perfectly timed for the trick-or-treat festivities. These quests offer you the opportunity to earn some delectable treats.
However, there’s a delightful challenge to these quests that adds to the excitement: you must first embark on a thrilling quest of your own to procure a suitably spooky outfit, which will enable you to participate in Kuromi’s Halloween-themed adventures.
Until you find the perfect ensemble, you’ll have to bide your time and prepare for a ghoulishly good time ahead.
You’ll also be able to make friends with Retsuko the red panda, Badtz-maru the mischievous penguin who loves pranks, Pompompurin the golden retriever, the scatter-brained Chococat, Keroppi the frog, Pochacco the sporty pup, Tuxedosam the penguin who owns a clothing shop, Hangyodon the fish, and the good-natured and kindhearted Pekkle.
Cultivating and nurturing friendships on the island is undeniably a fundamental aspect of the game, as it greatly influences your ability to obtain essential items for quest completion and access additional tasks.
As you progress through your island adventure, a touching facet of the game entails creating comfortable residences for your new companions.
The charming abodes become a canvas for your creativity, as you’re given the delightful task of decorating each house in a manner that resonates with the unique tastes and preferences of your dear friends, adding a personal touch to the island.
The game offers not just an adventure, but an uplifting experience that captures the essence of the Hello Kitty universe, leaving players with lasting memories and smiles that are sure to endure long after the adventure ends.
