Ambassador of Iran to Brunei Darussalam Mohammad Taghi Rajabi yesterday highlighted the diplomatic relations between Iran and the Sultanate, which were established in 1990, marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“Over the past three decades, both countries have enjoyed close cooperation and cordial traditional ties on the basis of mutual respect and understanding,” the envoy said during a reception hosted by the Embassy of Iran in Brunei Darussalam to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Iran’s National Day yesterday.
Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin and spouse attended.
“There have been eight Joint Technical Committee meetings, with the next one expected soon this year,” the ambassador said. He added that Iran attaches great importance to its relationship with the Sultanate and is ready to strengthen bilateral relations in all areas, especially in economy, trade, investment, culture and tourism.
The main foreign policy goals of the Iranian government are to secure national interests, safeguard national security and expand economic diplomacy with the vision extending to establishing balanced political, economic, and cultural relations with all nations, the ambassador added, “Iran continues to advocate and work for peace and stability in the region on the basis of its principled and responsible stance,” he said.
The reception began with the national anthems of Brunei Darussalam and Iran, followed by the recitation of Al-Quran and Doa Selamat. – Lyna Mohamad
