Nearly 3,000 Unified Smart Metering System (USMS), a unified smart solution for both water and electricity into a single account have been installed at homes and business premises following the official signing ceremony of Smart Metering Service Agreement (SMSA) and Statement of Work (SOW) in October last year.
The residential areas targetted for installation are RPN Kampong Meragang and RPN Kampong Mengkubau areas, Manager of DST Network Ronald Liew said. DST Network Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary company of Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd tasked to implement the project. The solution is aimed to encourage and drive more efficient supply and use of utilities in Brunei Darussalam and to enhance the overall experience of end-users receiving utility services from utility providers.
The USMS has a two-way communication module to send and receive near real-time data from the Smart Electrical Meter using 3G/4G SIM cards. It is a gateway to digitalising electric and water services to the population.
In an exclusive interview with the Bulletin, the Manager of DST Network said, “This is a government project under the Ministry of Finance and Economy and Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd as well as the Department of Electrical Services (DES) and Department of Water Services (DWS) and government-linked companies and Berakas Power Company Sdn Bhd (BPC).”
