All clear for weighing machines at Tutong, Belait weekly markets

The Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) under Ministry of Finance and Economy, recently conducted spot check visits to weekly market booths, namely Pasaraneka Complex Tamu Tutong in the Tutong District and Tamu Tudung Saji in the Belait District.

SDT officers also inspected the weighing machines to ensure that they complied with Chapter 151 of the Weights and Measures Act 1983.

All weighing machines were verified as being accurate and registered in accordance to the Act as well as Chapter 3 (1) and (2) of the the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994.

During the visits, SDT officers inspected 51 weighing machines – 33 in Pasaraneka Complex Tamu Tutong and 18 in Tamu Tudung Saji.

According to SDT, the operation is part of enforcement actions to protect consumers rights and to encourage local businesses to be transparent in conducting their business activities.

Consumers are also advised to ensure any weighing and measuring machines used during trading activities involving weight, volume and length have a valid registration sticker issued by the SDT. – James Kon
