Muhammad Fuad bin Matahir from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Hadziqah binti Haji Ayup from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) emerged as the champions in of an Al-Quran reading competition for higher learning institutions yesterday.
The competition was held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 76th birthday celebration.
Sixteen students participated in the competition organised by members of Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque Takmir Committee and Imarah Division of the Mosque Affairs Department at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan was on hand to present the prizes.
The competition’s objectives were to uphold His Majesty’s call to have students recite Al-Quran before the start of their lessons, to make Al-Quran recitation a daily practice and to strengthen the reading of Al-Quran in a Murattal manner.
The organiser also hoped the competition will turn Al-Quran readers into role models for the youth.
