Haji Md Jais bin Haji Md Salleh and Hajah Norzalinawati binti Haji Ali Zainal emerged as winners in the men and women’s Category in the Belait District Murattal Al-Quran reading competition for participants aged 50 and above recently.
Haji Md Jais secured first place in the men’s Category after a tie-breaking decision, followed by Haji Akup bin Haji Kassim and Pengiran Haji Azahari bin Pengiran Haji Salleh.
After deliberation, the judges crowned Haji Md Jais as the winner based on his tajweed, with Haji Akup and Pengiran Haji Azahari in second and third place.
Meanwhile, Hajah Norzalinawati was placed first with a score of 95.5 per cent followed by Zainah binti Haji Daud and Jamilah binti Haji Dullah in second and third place.
The competition, organised by RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque Takmir Committee started on November 9, where 33 participants competed for the finals on November 16. Penghulu of Mukim Belait Haji Abdul Afiq bin Zainuddin was the guest of honour at the finals. He was welcomed on arrival by mosque imam Haji Abdul Adzid bin Haji Abdul Majid. Haji Abdul Adzid in a speech highlighted that the participants were graded based on their tajweed, fasahah, melody and voice; totalling to 100 points. – Daniel Lim
