Abdul Qawiyyel Azeez bin Haji Abdul Rajid was placed first in the male category of the Al-Quran Reading Competition for Youth in conjunction with the 39th National Day celebrations recently.
Abdurrahman bin Haji Md Azmi, Afiq Haririe bin Haji Md Daud, Md Auni Marzuki bin Haji Anuar and Abdul Haziq Syarafuddin bin Abdul Habib were the runners-up at the event held at the National Housing Scheme (RPN) Kampong Pandan Mosque in Kuala Belait, organised by the mosque’s takmir committee.
In the female category, Nur Amal Atiqah @ Aida binti Haji Sudirman came in first, followed by Nor Rodaah binti Haji Asmat, Azimah Atiqah binti Januddin, Nur Fahimah Syahmina binti Haji Mohamad Aslenan, and Nuratiqah Hidayati binti Haji Alias.
Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman was welcomed by event chairman Abdul Qayyum bin Haji Aminuddin, who was accompanied by co-chairman and Acting Director of Mosque Affairs Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri.
“Seventeen participants competed in the male category and eight in the female category. The competition saw participants from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Meragang Sixth Form Centre, Gadong Sixth Form Centre and Youth Al-Quran Reading Scheme (STAR),” said Abdul Qayyum.
Assistant Belait District Officer Mohammad Yassin bin Haji Ahmed and the Head of Religious Officer at the Belait District Religious Affairs Office Mohamad Aliyani bin Ismail were also present.
