(ANN/THE KOREA HERALD) – ADOR, the agency for K-pop girl group NewJeans, has lodged a complaint aiming to prohibit the group’s music activities, according to the group on Thursday, highlighting the latest update in the ongoing conflict between the agency and the artists.
The group, which rebranded as NJZ early last month, revealed on its social media that ADOR filed the complaint on Feb. 11, demanding the court prohibit the group from “all music activities, including songwriting and performances,” as well as related promotional endeavours.

The latest legal action builds on ADOR’s earlier appeal for the group to cease commercial activities while maintaining the agency’s role as their official representative.
NJZ claimed ADOR is essentially attempting to prevent them from participating in any entertainment activities whatsoever.
“It is an attempt to compromise our professional freedom,” the group said, adding “NJZ’s core is music activities, so constraining this is tantamount to denying our existential value.”
ADOR, however, responded that the recent legal action was “inevitable” since the group persisted with music activities, including plans for overseas performances, amid the ongoing legal dispute regarding the agency’s representation.
“We are not trying to restrict their activities, but to warn them to maintain their activities while adhering to contractual agreements signed with ADOR,” it said.
The first court hearing on the matter is scheduled for Friday morning. – Yonhap
