PETALING JAYA (ANN/THE STAR) – Prominent Malaysian film producer and actor, Datuk Rosyam Nor, has fallen prey to a disturbing trend wherein investment scammers exploit images of celebrities and notable figures for their fraudulent activities.
Denouncing any involvement in share-related investment schemes, Rosyam Nor clarified his detachment from such ventures.
A Malaysian newspaper revealed that unscrupulous entities had illicitly employed the 56-year-old’s likeness to endorse dubious investment initiatives.
“I just want to tell you, there are a lot of advertisements about stocks that use my picture and a lot of people are affected,” he was quoted as saying in a video.
“Don’t be quick to believe, people can use my picture, post my picture,” he said.
The Malay daily reported that other celebrities such as Datuk Awie, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Rozita Che Wan, Ella and Erra Fazira had previously reported that their photos had also been used to promote products and stocks.
