Active weather forecast until Wednesday

Weather conditions in the Sultanate are forecast to be active until Wednesday morning, with occasional heavy and thunder showers expected to affect many areas of the country, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) announced yesterday.

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the southwest monsoon which will typically persist until September.

During the southwest monsoon, atmospheric conditions over the country tend to be quite stable with minimal thunderstorms compared to during the inter-monsoon period.

The wind condition generally will be blowing from the southwest direction during this period.

Wind speed may reach up to 45 kilometres per hour during or near heavy showers.

Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally at slight, below one metre.

The BDMD advised the public to take precautionary actions, adding, “There is risk of fallen trees and landslides during heavy showers and gusty condition.

“Flash floods are also possible, especially at low-lying and flood prone areas, as well as near river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide.”

The department advised the public, particularly road users and fishermen, to stay up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by BDMD.
