Active weather conditions are expected until Tuesday, with occasional heavy and thundery showers affecting many areas of the country, said the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) in a statement yesterday.
The Sultanate is in the southwest monsoon period, where southwesterly wind is dominant with stable atmospheric conditions. However, active weather conditions are forecast due to the moist atmospheric conditions enhancing the development of rain clouds.
Wind speed may reach up to 45 kph during or near heavy thundershowers. Over Brunei waters, the sea state is generally at slight, between 0.3 to 0.6 metres.
The public is advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near river banks during continuous heavy rain and high tide.
Landslides and falling trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition, BDMD said.
