Active weather forecast in Sultanate until Sunday

Active weather condition is forecast to extend until Sunday with occasional heavy and thundery showers, especially over inland areas at late afternoon and at times spreading towards coastal areas at night, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) stated yesterday.

It said the Sultanate is in the northeast monsoon which is expected to last until the end of March 2024.

During the first two months, Brunei is expected to receive the highest amount of rainfall and rainy days, in comparison to the other months, BDMD added. The weather condition is expected to be active in the next few days due to the combination of a low-pressure system near the country with the cold-surge leading to a more moist atmospheric condition, and enhancing the development of rain clouds.

Wind gust may reach up to 50 kilometres per hour (km/h) during or near heavy and thundery showers.

Over Brunei waters, the sea state is generally at moderate to rough state with wave height reaching up to 2.0 metres.

The public is advised to take precautionary action as there is a risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near river banks during continuous heavy rain and also high tide.

The risk of landslides and fallen trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition.

The public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by BDMD and to take action to ensure safety.
