    Active weather advisory until Monday

The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of active weather conditions starting today, Tuesday (January 7, 2025), which are expected to persist until Monday (January 13, 2025).

The forecast predicts occasional heavy and thundery showers primarily affecting inland areas in the afternoons, with the potential to spread to coastal and sea areas during the night and early morning hours. Wind speeds may reach up to 45 km/h during or near these showers.

Residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas or near riverbanks, are cautioned about the increased risk of flash floods during periods of continuous heavy rainfall, especially when coinciding with high tides. Additionally, the advisory highlights potential risks of falling trees, flying roofs, and landslides during heavy and gusty showers.

Brunei is currently in the Northeast Monsoon which will typically persist until around the end of March, where the first half brings unstable weather conditions, including occasional heavy showers or thundershowers, whereas the second half brings stable atmpospheric conditions with reduced rainfall activity.
