Achievements, history highlighted at 10th anniversary

Politeknik Brunei (PB) held its 10th year anniversary at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas on Thursday.

It has been 14 years since a polytechnic was envisioned by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during the Teacher’s Day celebration on October 18, 2008.

The 10th anniversary celebration highlighted the achievements and the history of the institution since its inception.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Fiscal) Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani who is also the PB Board of Governors Chairperson attended as the guest of honour. Members of PB Board of Governors, vice chancellors, rector, ra’es, deputy permanent secretary, heads of department, heads of division, school and centre from as well as PB officers and staff were also present.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Haji Mohammad Sanusi bin Haji Salim from PB’s General Studies Division.

PB Acting Director Lim Kian Boon highlighted the institution’s journey since 2008 focussing on the development of the institution and the programmes.

The acting director also highlighted the institution’s gratitude and appreciation towards industry partners and stakeholders that have collaborated to develop programmes at PB to meet the industry demands.

The acting director highlighted the institution’s way forward in stepping into digital transformation for a more sustainable corporate governance.

PB also presented a donation to SMARTER Brunei in commemoration of its 10th year anniversary which was collected during the PB Walkathon 2022.

The guest of honour presented the mock cheque for BND4,000 to Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Rescources (SMARTER) Brunei representative Pengiran Zamri bin Pengiran Haji Bujang.

The ceremony also featured the launch of PB’s revamped website by the guest of honour and a presentation of tokens of appreciation to those who made significant contributions to PB.

The institution also presented the Excellence swards, Administrative Excellence sward for Leadership, The Administrative Excellence sward for Management, The Administrative Excellence sward for Support Staff and Special sward. Aligned with PB’s value Tafawwuq, which translates to “Excellence”, the awards are given to recognised staff who excelled in their fields, ranging from academic, leadership, management to support staff.
