Academy advocates free football training for children

Local grassroots football development programme Projek Ikan Pusu (PIP) prioritised the need for children to enjoy free access to training opportunities as the future of the country’s football.

The call was highlighted following the return of training sessions for all PIP players since the Ramadhan break.

PIP Assistant Head Coach Aldy bin Haji Omar said, “We do not wish to see any child deprived of quality football training because his parents cannot afford to pay the monthly fees.”

He added, “Every one of us in PIP including the coaches, committee members, players, parents, and supporters are doing this for ‘free’ for Brunei’s football future.”

The long-standing football academy also conveyed their appreciation to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Youth and Sports Department for their assistance in providing facilities. The academy has been provided free usage of Jerudong Field and Sungai Kebun Sports Complex for the whole of 2024.

PIP head coach Haji Omar bin Haji Jamil on behalf of the football development programme expressed gratitude for their support.

He said that while the PIP coaches are volunteers, they have an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) A, B or C Coaching Licence. – Fadhil Yunus
