A woman who aborted her pregnancy which she kept from her husband was jailed six months on Saturday.
Intermediate Court Judge Hajah Hazarena binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Hurairah heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali that the defendant, 36-year-old Nuralinda binti Abdul Majid @ Linda anak Maji was 23 weeks into her pregnancy and had kept it from her husband citing personal reasons.
Nuralinda attended a doctor’s appointment in March 2021 when she was told that she was due in July that year, before she decided to abort her pregnancy.
The mother of two then sought for help from an acquaintance to get BND50 worth of tablets which would cause a miscarriage.
The defendant on March 31, 2021 ingested the tablets.
On April 1, 2021 the defendant felt stomach pains when accompanying her father for his doctor’s appointment at a health centre.
She felt pain throughout her trip to the health centre and at about 10am, the defendant went to the health centre’s toilet and birthed a foetus.
She covered it up with toilet paper, placed it in a plastic bag and hid it in her handbag.
The defendant kept the plastic bag in the boot of her car.
By 2pm, the defendant called up her acquaintance to help her bury the foetus. The duo then bought supplies to clean the foetus at a multi-purpose hall toilet.
The defendant sent her acquaintance back to her workplace by 4.30pm, who then dug-up a shallow grave nearby and buried the defendant’s foetus. It was a second doctor’s appointment on April 5, 2021 when it was discovered that the defendant had aborted her pregnancy.
A police report was lodged on April 6, 2021 which led to the investigations and recovery of the remains of the foetus on April 8, 2021.
