Abandoned roadside stalls cleared

The Department of Roads of the Public Works Department (JKR) dismantled and removed abandoned roadside stalls at two locations in Jalan Muara.

The operation was completed on May 23 with the assistance of the Royal Brunei Police Force.

The Ministry of Development urged stall vendors to operate legally in designated areas provided by the government.

Setting up any structures over roads or road reserves without authorisation is an offence under the Road Traffic Act and is punishable with up to BND2,000 fine.

For subsequent offence vendors are fined BND4,000 and imprisonment for three months.

The JKR director general has the authority to remove such structures and may recover costs incurred from dismantling and removing the structures from those responsible. The public can lodge a complaint to Darussalam Line 123 to report abandoned stalls that may cause danger to road users.
