A step towards realising Brunei Vision 2035

The establishment of Brunei Darussalam Maritime Cluster reached a milestone with a contract signing ceremony at the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) yesterday to invest, develop, operate and maintain an Integrated Marine Maintenance and Decommissioning Yard.

It is a major step towards the realisation of the Sultanate’s Brunei Vision 2035 to have a dynamic and sustainable economy.

The integrated yard will be developed in phases on a 16-hectare site at Pulau Muara Besar and will commence operations in 2024.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II and Chairman of the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Pengiran Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani, British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam John Virgoe, Singaporean High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Heng Aik Yeow, Korean Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Kim Soung-eun and Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Dr Sujatmiko were present at the event.

The contract signing ceremony saw four project agreements between Anson International Sdn Bhd and the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam represented by the MoFE; BEDB; and BSP.

The agreement was inked by Permanent Secretary (Economy) at the MoFE Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Assistant Chief Executive Officer and Head of Foreign Direct Investment Action and Support Centre of BEDB Mohammad Harris bin Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim, BSP Finance Director Robert William Van Velden and Haji Musa bin Haji Adnin representing Anson International Sdn Bhd.

Anson International Sdn Bhd is a special purpose vehicle established for the implementation of the intergrated yard project. The founding investors are Haji Adinin and Sons Sdn Bhd through Qaswa Holding Sdn Bhd, Strategic Development Capital Fund of the MoFE, Dongil Shipyard Co Ltd of Korea and CessCon Decom Ltd of United Kingdom.

The event included an exhibition showcasing the integrated yard, supporting industrial services, spin-off businesses and employment opportunities by Anson International Sdn Bhd as well as decommissioning and restoration of offshore assets by BSP.
