A smooth ride on Brunei roads

The new Toyota Wigo officially landed in Brunei following a launching ceremony by NBT Brunei Sdn Bhd, the authorised distributor of Toyota vehicles in the Sultanate.

NBT Brunei Senior General Sales Manager Leong Cheng Soon with NBT Brunei Marketing Manager Anderson Lim as well as senior management of banks and insurance agencies attended the event at The Mall, Gadong yesterday.

The second-generation Wigo is packed with improved technology and driving performance as well as sports a fresh new look compared to its predecessor first introduced in 2014.

The Wigo is known for its easy driving, reliability and charming look, making it a preferred driving companion. With the all-new model, all those elements have been enhanced for customer appeal.

One variant is available in the market and comes in four colour options – white, red mica metallic, grey metallic and black.

Known for its value-for-money, the new Wigo now has a smart keyless entry and push-start ignition system with a tilt steering wheel.

It is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder in-line and 12-valve DOHC engine with electronic fuel injection, offering fuel efficiency. It delivers a maximum output of 49kW/65hp and a maximum torque of 89Nm/4,400rpm with a CVT auto transmission.

Safety has always been Toyota’s priority in its vehicles starting from entry to premium levels. The Toyota Wigo is equipped with a Stop Hold Function (Hill Start Assist) preventing the vehicle from rolling backwards when the driver takes the feet off the brakes from a stop.

The hatchback also has a Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system meaning that it hinders the car from skidding and helps stabilise the vehicle during sharp cornering or sudden steering changes.

In addition, the new Wigo has dual SRS airbags, ABS brake, three-point seat belt, immobiliser and alarm and ISOFIX rear seat.

The all-new Wigo also introduced the ‘Follow Me Home’ feature where the headlamps will be switched on for a limited time as soon as the car ignition is switched off. The safety feature gives better and clearer attention to surroundings, especially in the dark, guiding drivers and passengers back home safely once out of the car.

The second-generation Wigo is visibly bigger than its predecessor and the changes in its outer look are visible from the front to the rear of the car. It also has a sharper front end with narrow LED headlights and a large grille – the prominent feature distinguishing the new and old models’ fascia.

Its side mirror is now power-retractable and not manually folded as compared to the previous model.

The all-new Wigo moves on 14-inch alloy wheels and LED clearance lens on both sides of the car frontage. On the inside, the new model has a more modern touch and feel compared to the first-generation Wigo with more space due to the increase in length and width.

The horizontal instrument panel on the front deck gives a smart and sleek look accentuating the overall ambiance of the car.

Drivers and passengers can enjoy the new eight-inch infotainment touchscreen wired with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The digital air-conditioning system with fewer button points allows users to control the all-new Wigo’s climate change easily.

These new improvements of the new hatchback define greater comfort to car passengers paired with the body-hugging bucket seats and adjustable headrests.

The Wigo will be on display at The Mall, Gadong until tomorrow and in NBT showrooms from September 4. – James Kon
