Total Energies EP (Brunei) BV yesterday delivered an ECMO machine to the National Isolation Centre at Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (PMMPMHAMB) Hospital, Tutong District yesterday.
Total Energies EP (Brunei) BV General Manager Jerome Saniez presented the donation.
The donation was aimed at aiding the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, especially the Ministry of Health (MoH), in curbing the spread of COVID-19.
PMMPMHAMB Hospital CEO Abdul Mu’iz bin Haji Ibrahim, Medical Superintendent Pengiran Dr Noor Affizan Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman as well as other officials were present.
Jerome Saniez said, “We are very happy to donate an ECMO machine. I think it’s the first time the MoH received such a donation.
“The donation is also in recognition of all healthcare frontliners and those who have been involved in helping curb the COVID-19 spread.”
On the country’s effort to stem the pandemic tide, he said, “It’s an example for other countries to follow. Over 94 per cent of the Sultanate’s population has completed their vaccine schedule under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, while 30 per cent has taken the booster shot.
Brunei anticipated the crisis by setting up of isolation centres and SOPs (to meet the challenge). I think this is key in controlling the pandemic. Now that we are in Endemic Phase, we are protected by the vaccination. However we still need to continue to comply with the standard operating procedures.”
