Green Brunei, with the support of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd organised the 5th Plastic Bottle-Free Campaign at the 40th National Day celebration on Saturday.
As part of the initiative, Green Brunei set up four water dispenser stations along the parade route leading to Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium which were provided free of charge to the public.
The campaign was a success with 1,487 cups distributed as well as using reusable water bottles, which helped reduce the use of plastic bottles during the National Day celebration.
The campaign also supports the ‘Plastic Bottle Free Initiative’ introduced by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Ministry of Development in June 2018 and the ‘Green Protocol’, launched on January 30, 2021 by the Ministry of Development.
The main aim of the initiative was to encourage the use of alternative, sustainable practices to reduce plastic waste, which in turn promotes a greener and more sustainable community.
Green Brunei hopes that this campaign will inspire people to take part in similar initiatives to help reduce plastic waste in the country.
