    A night of cultures, fundraising

Colourful cultural performances enlivened the stage of the Seri Kenangan Hall in Tutong District yesterday in support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ (MCYS) Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023.

The cultural night, themed ‘Kebudayaan untuk Kedamaian’, was organised by the Tutong District Office in collaboration with the mukim and village councils in the district.

Acting Tutong District Officer Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri was among the attendees.

Co-chairman of the organising committee Haji Salim bin Haji Othman said the theme, in a global context, is about strengthening ties, promoting the spirit of solidarity and raising awareness on the importance of community, respect and helping the needy while inculcating and practising a harmonious life.

He also said the cultural night featured 180 children, youngsters and adults showcasing performances of their respective ethnicities and a portrayal of every mukim and village.

The event continued with cultural performances from Tutong, Kedayan, Dusun, Chinese, Iban and Bisaya communities.

The night also aimed to extend a helping hand to Palestinians in Gaza by chanelling 50 per cent of the proceeds to the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023. – Lyna Mohamad
