Twenty-one officers, locally employed staff, and supporters from the Jungle Warfare Division (JWD) of the British Forces Brunei (BFB) at the Medicina Lines, Seria began a two-day cleaning campaign along Jalan Labi yesterday to raise funds for a health stricken member.

The group first began its campaign by cleaning the roadside from the entrance of Jalan Labi towards the rural area of Belait District. The Commanding Officer JWD Major Lalitbahadur Gurung said the cleaning campaign ‘Ex Jalan Labi’ is to raise funds for a member.

“Mohd Aspamee bin Hamadi is a senior storeman working with JWD since October 2, 2006.

Last August, he suffered cardiac heart problems and according to doctors, his health condition doesn’t look promising.”

He added that, Aspamee also developed kidney issues and that local health institutes were unable to perform a major surgery in Brunei.

“He is planning to undergo treatment elsewhere, but he does not have funds to do.”

Major Lalitbahadur said the cause has reached over 81 per cent completion and is pushing to reach the GBP6,000 goal.

“Aspamee has been with the Training Team Brunei (TTB) for 17 years now JWD and he has been part of our family. He individually supports the staff and service personnel across British Forces Brunei, and never asking for anything in return.

“He has persistently pursued all mandatory courses and is actively using his experience in support of the outputs. He has performed outstandingly all these years.”

The group also reached out to local businesses and agencies for aid. Those wishing to contribute can contact Major Lalitbahadur at 8330256 or local representative David Chan at 8988786.

Major Lalitbahadur noted that the rural area of Belait District was also used frequently by the division for training purposes and the cleaning campaign aimed at ensuring the cleanliness of the environment not only for the division but the residents as well.

The group will continue the cleaning campaign today as they journey down the 50 kilometre road along Jalan Labi.
