Schools observe World Book Day

Over 161 students from five schools in the Belait District indulged in a morning of imagination and inspiration through reading, marking World Book Day on April 23.

Hosted at the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) Kampong Pandan Library, the event was part of a nationwide initiative to foster a culture of reading among students.

Activities at the event included a 10-minute silent reading session and storytelling, where library staff engaged young minds with the timeless folktale of Jack and the Beanstalk, sparking their imaginations.

Additional activities like Finger Gym exercises and quizzes were also organised, with correct answers earning students prizes from the library.

Reflecting on the event, Zia Ul Haq, a Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) teacher from Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Abdul Momin Primary School, praised its impact on students’ imagination and character development, emphasising the importance of cultivating a reading culture for their learning journey.

“I’m optimistic about the World Book Day event and hope it becomes more than just an annual occurrence, providing students with frequent opportunities for enjoyable, experiential learning beyond the classroom,” said Haq.
