80,500 new firms established in Vietnam in H1

HANOI (XINHUA) – Nearly 80,500 enterprises were newly formed in Vietnam in the first six months of this year, posting an increase of 6.1 per cent year-on-year, according to the latest statistics of the General Statistics Office.

The registered capital of the new enterprises was estimated at VND744.2 trillion (USD29.2 billion), the office said.

The number of new firms established in the period rose 15.7 per cent in the production and distribution of electricity, water, gas; 13.8 per cent in the automobile and motorbike repair sector; and 8.2 per cent in the manufacturing and processing industry compared to the same period last year.

Most of the newly-established firms were small-sized enterprises with 92.3 per cent in the service sector, said the report.

Between January and June, over 39,000 firms that previously ceased operations resumed their activities, surging 3.9 per cent on the year.
