Poni Marine and Project Looking After Underwater Treasures (LAUT) Brunei planted 77 corals at Pelong Reef, close to Serasa, to commemorate the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The reef balls were deployed by a team of 14 divers – including two volunteers from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 18.
The event saw the first batch of reef balls planted as part of the Poni Marine team’s training under the Reef Ball Foundation (RBF) founder Todd Barber and RBF coral propagation expert Carla Bako. – Daniel Lim
