74 students join ‘Jati Diri’ programme

Seventy-four students under the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) iSkill programme for industrial skills qualification (ISQ) in blasting and painting, marking and fitting, rigging and scaffolding courses are undergoing 90 days of training under Cohort 6 of Jati Diri programme (PJD) following an official opening ceremony yesterday.

Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah officiated the launch of the programme at the National Service Programme (PKBN) Training Camp in the Temburong District.

PJD is a collaborative programme between the Manpower Planning Office under the PMO, IBTE and National Service Division.

Acting Director of Manpower Planning Hajah Noraini binti Haji Mohd Jamudin said, “The programme is expected to bridge the skills gap and shape the mindset of the trainees towards becoming more employable and industry-ready.

“Since the programme was introduced, 699 trainees have completed their training, and results from surveys conducted on previous cohorts have found that 95 per cent believed that PJD will help them secure employment,” she added.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister called for the support of parents and guardians of the trainees, as their support will be a strong source of motivation for the trainees to continuously work towards excellence.

He urged trainees to stay positive and be patient when overcoming challenges, while calling on them to take advantage of the opportunity given.

The ceremony also saw trainees reciting an oath and a video presentation on the journey of previous trainees. – James Kon
