68 new COVID cases surface in Sultanate

Brunei Darussalam recorded 68 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the national tally of confirmed cases to 16,413. Of the new cases, 55 were local and 13, imported.

The new cases were detected through 2,944 laboratory tests carried out over the last 24 hours. The infection rate of positive cases stands at 2.3 per cent, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Meanwhile, 20 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 15,897. A total of 414 active cases remain. The bed occupancy rate at isolation centres nationwide is 8.9 per cent, and no cases are in Categories 4 or 5.

The vaccination rate in the Sultanate remains unchanged: As of January 1, 94.8 per cent of the populace have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 94 per cent the second dose, and 39.9 per cent have had their booster shot.
