Some 533 orphans in the Belait District received donations during a ceremony held at Pusat Insani, Seria yesterday to uplift the spirit of Ramadhan and prepare for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd’s (BSP) Managing Director Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, Corporate Manager Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Bakar and Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad presented the donations. The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque’s Imam Abdul Azim bin Haji Abdul Majid followed by tazkirah by Assistant Religious Officer at the Belait District Da’wah Unit Abdul Khaliq bin Kamree and the recitation of tahlil and Doa arwah.
The ceremony continued with Haji Amirol Hafidzin presenting donations collected from the National Orphans Fund, Belait District Orphans Fund and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, while Johnsgaard-Lewis handed donations contributed by BSP. Representatives from various associations including Belait District Tiong Hua Association, Sullivans (B) Sdn Bhd and Hainan Association also donated BND1,500 to the orphans’ fund. – Daniel Lim
