    3,849 new COVID-19 cases detected

    The Sultanate detected 3,849 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the national tally of confirmed cases to 104,022. Of the new cases, 3,172 were from antigen rapid test (ART) results uploaded to the BruHealth app, while 677 were from 4,100 RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours.

    One case passed away and was not categorised as a COVID-related death.

    The latest pandemic situation in the country was shared by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at the daily press conference yesterday.

    The minister expressed, “On behalf of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the people of Brunei Darussalam, I would like to express our deepest condolences to the case’s family. May the case’s soul receive blessings and be placed among the pious.”

    He revealed that 11 cases are in Category 4 requiring oxygen assistance and under close monitoring. Meanwhile, eight are in Category 5 requiring artificial ventilation assistance and receiving treatment at the intensive care unit. The number of cases in Category 4 and Category 5 at this time is 7.3 per cent of the treatment capacity of Categories 4 and 5 at the National Isolation Centre.

    The minister said 3,333 cases recovered yesterday, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 64,081 with 39,785 active cases.

    At present, the bed occupancy rate at isolation centres nationwide is 8.5 per cent where 287 active cases are placed in isolation centres. Some 39,498 positive cases are undergoing home self-isolation.

    On the vaccination rate, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said, “As of March 9, 57.5 per cent of the population have received three doses under the National COVID0-19 Vaccination Programme.”

    No violations were detected during the movement restriction from midnight to 4am yesterday.

    Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah were also present.
