37 feted in graduation ceremony

A graduation ceremony for the seventh and eighth batch of 37 scholarship students under the joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme of Hengyi Industries was held yesterday.

Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle was the guest of honour.

The event began with welcoming remarks by Dean of Faculty of Integrated Technologies at UBD Dr Juliana binti Haji Zaini, and Dean of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Zhejiang University (ZJU) Professor Youqing Shen.

It continued with a speech by graduate’s representatives from the seventh batch, Siti Sarah binti Mohammad Hussin and eight batch Abigail Lee Xin. They expressed gratitude to Hengyi Industries for providing the scholarship and to their lecturers for their commitment in providing the scholars with invaluable guidance and education.

The event continued with the presentation of certificates to the students.

The graduates recently completed their studies at ZJU under the joint scholarship programme established in March 2014, aimed at helping cultivate local talents by providing a platform to equip them with technical knowledge and training.

The scholars have completed their first one and a half years of studies at UBD, as well as one and a half years of online learning at ZJU.

Upon completion of their studies, they will be offered employment opportunities from Hengyi Industries.

As of August 2022, the UBD–ZJU Scholarship have been awarded to 138 students, while 80 students have completed their studies with UBD and ZJU and are employed by Hengyi Industries.
