Firefighters responded to 35 incidences of fallen trees in January 2022, statistics revealed. Of the figure, 25 cases were reported in Brunei-Muara District, five in Belait District, three in Temburong District and two in Tutong District.

Meanwhile, four firefighters from Pengkalan Batu Fire Station removed a fallen tree blocking a stretch of road in Kampong Batong on January 30 afternoon. The team broke down the 12-metre-long, 18-centimetre-wide tree with the help of two chainsaws, before clearing the space.

In light of the incident, the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) advised the public to avoid planting trees near homes, which can pose a danger during bad weather. Trees must also be pruned and maintained regularly, the FRD stated.
