Some 31 complaints were received by the Labour Department pertaining to dispute between employers and employees between 2020 and 2022, 94 per cent (29 cases) of which have been resolved.
This was said by Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman at the 19th Legislative Council session yesterday.
The minister added that, in an effort to support the aspirations of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Labour Department, has collaborated with the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) to plan and implement strategies to guarantee employment for local job seekers as well as their welfare and interest.
In addition, he said before filling a vacant position in the private sector, confirmation from JobCentre Brunei is required that the position cannot be filled by a local before the foreign worker licence can be approved by the Labour Department.
This, he said, is to ensure that locals are given priority in the private sector in the agency’s bid to reduce the unemployment rate in the country.
