30 day visa-free travel between Brunei, Japan

Brunei and Japan have implemented a new visa waiver measure, allowing citizens of both countries to stay for up to 30 days without a visa. The reciprocal agreement, effective from December 10 was announced following a note verbale exchange between the two nations in March.

To celebrate the milestone, a welcoming reception with traditional hadrah performance was held at the Brunei International Airport for passengers arriving from Japan.

Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru and Acting Director of Tourism Development Salinah binti Haji Mohd Salleh were present to greet the visitors.

Ambassador Maeda expressed his hope that the visa waiver would encourage increased travel and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. He also noted that this year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brunei.

Japanese travellers have expressed enthusiasm about the new visa waiver.

Takumi Matsuzaki, a frequent visitor to Brunei, believes it will encourage more Japanese tourists to explore the country’s pristine forests, rich culture and diverse cuisine.

Takahiro Hirayama, another visitor, shared his excitement about returning to Brunei and discovering more of its attractions, such as mosques, museums and local cuisine. – James Kon
