The 29th Consumer Fair (CF) opened with much fanfare at the International Convention Centre, Berakas, on Wednesday. The five-day event was officially inaugurated by Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, as the guest of honour.
In her welcoming remarks, Chui San Ting, Head of Corporate Communication of organiser D’Sunlit, shared her aspirations for the CF’s future. “Reflecting on our journey since the first Consumer Fair in 2008, it is truly inspiring to see how far we have come in connecting businesses together,” she said.
Despite limited resources, D’Sunlit has remained committed to creating a beneficial platform for businesses and emerging SMEs to showcase their products and services. Chui expressed gratitude for the support from government agencies and looked forward to more collaborative partnerships that would facilitate future events. “Your ongoing support is the driving force behind the success of the SMEs on our platform,” she added.
She also highlighted the importance of simplifying procedures for small businesses and facilitating the entry of international vendors, which she believes could position Brunei as a prime location for business prospects in the near future.
This edition of the Consumer Fair features over 580 booths, including a significant number of foreign vendors from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and Thailand, contributing to a vibrant mix of products and services.
Themed “Back From The Future,” the event takes on a whimsical concept where the Future Day CF Family from 2124 finds themselves stranded in 2024 after their time machine malfunctions. This theme aims to ignite excitement and curiosity among visitors, encouraging them to engage with futuristic solutions and products that could enhance their lives.
A special highlight of the opening ceremony was the launch of CF 2025, marking a significant commitment to the event’s future. This upcoming chapter aims to transform the Consumer Fair into a cornerstone for economic diversification and a beacon for trade and collaboration.
Special guests included Chair of the APEC Business Advisory Council Brunei Pengiran Aki Ismasufian bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim and Mr Thomas Koh, representing the BIMP-EAGA Business Council Brunei. Both delivered encouraging remarks, highlighting insights and opportunities across the APEC and BIMP-EAGA regions.
In the spirit of environmental responsibility, the public is encouraged to bring reusable bags for their shopping needs, and CF edition recycle bags will be available for purchase during the event.
With a diverse range of exhibitors and a strong international presence, the 29th CF is poised to be a hub of innovation and consumer engagement. One of the event’s highlights is the much-anticipated Grand Lucky Draw Prize, a brand-new Toyota Vios, sponsored by Toyota Brunei – NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd. – LYNA MOHAMAD
