27 arrested for alleged drug trafficking, abuse

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested 27 individuals for alleged drug trafficking and abuse during a recent operation.

The ‘Operasi Ursa Heal’ commenced on June 16 and continued on June 19, said the NCB in a statement.

Among the 27 individuals arrested were locals and foreigners aged 16 to 65, said the agency, adding that they seized 75.29 grammes of methylamphetamine (syabu) and 37.21 grammes of ganja.

The seized syabu is estimated to have a local market value of BND10,000, said the agency.

The operation also seized cash of BND3,652, SGD24, MYR100 and PHP500 believed to be the proceeds from drug trafficking, as well as drug paraphernalia and equipment believed to be used for packing of drugs, including a digital weighing scale and empty transparent packaging.

Several suspects detained will also be investigated under Section 3A, Chapter 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act on the offence of being in possession of controlled drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

If found guilty, with the amount of drugs seized, the suspects will face a punishment of a minimum of five years to the maximum of 20 years in jail and between five and 15 strokes of the cane.

Suspects detained during the operation were found to have continued to carry out activities of drug trafficking and misuse of drug despite being previously detained by the NCB.  – James Kon
