250 bags of rubbish collected

Some 250 bags of trash were collected by 133 volunteers during a beach clean-up organised by PTAS Aker Solutions Sdn Bhd along a 3.3-kilometre beach front, from Los Tanjung Helipad to Pantaiku Ceria, recently.

The annual activity, first held in 2017, began with the recitation of Doa Selamat followed by a briefing and speech from project director Oddvar Bryne.

Bryne said it is the duty of citizens and responsible members of society to keep beaches clean and protect the environment.

He said keeping the beaches clean help to protect marine habitat and wildlife while also foster an appreciation for the natural environment.

The campaign continued with volunteers splitting into nine groups to collect trash.

Garbage collected included PET bottles, styrofoam pieces, plastic baskets, fishing nets, disposable cups, cigarette butts and cords.
