25 join heritage preservation workshop

A four-day capacity building workshop for heritage protection professionals is taking place to increase the capacity of experts and professionals involved in preserving and protecting Bruneian cultural heritage.
 
Twenty-five government officials and staff from various ministries are participating in the workshop. They are involved in preserving sites, monuments and cultural elements that have the potential to be added to the Islamic World Heritage List. Mukim penghulus and village heads from all four districts are also joining the workshop as observers. The workshop’s opening ceremony took place at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ (MCYS) Di-Gadong Hall on Monday. 
 
The workshop is jointly organised by the MCYS and the Ministry of Education as National Commission of Brunei Darussalam for the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).
 
Acting Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah officiated the opening ceremony as member of the Consultative Council for Cultural Development in the Islamic World.
 
Chief archive officer and member of the Islamic World Heritage Committee Aminah binti Haji Majid and Dr Bilel Chebbi from ICESCO also gave speeches at the opening ceremony. – James Kon
