Some 25 out of 60 contestants were selected to advance to the National Level Al-Quran Memorisation and its Understanding Competition for 1446 Hijrah, with the final stage set for early February.
The announcement was made by Chairman of the Judging Panel Pengiran Haji Khairul Ikhwan bin Pengiran Haji Alit, who also serves as the Joint Secretary of the Judging Panel during the Results and Token Presentation Ceremony at Muzakarah Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas yesterday.
The semi-final round of the competition, which concluded yesterday, was held over three consecutive days from Tuesday, at the same venue.
The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Level 1 imam of Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Sengkurong Haji Manan bin Haji Osman. This was followed by a welcoming speech by Acting Director of the Centre for Al-Quran Studies and Dissemination (MABIMS) Mohammad Ali Sabri bin Haji Yusof, who also serves as the chairman of the competition’s organising committee.
The final 12 participants of category ‘A’ took the stage, concluding the semi-final round. The event saw the presentation of tokens of appreciation and certificates to the contestants and judges.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, the guest of honour, officiated the awards presentation.
The competition aims to encourage the Muslim community in Brunei to develop a love for Al-Quran through memorisation and to integrate its teachings into daily life. It also seeks to increase the number of Al-Quran memorisation experts (huffaz) in the country, providing spiritual rewards and fostering a deeper understanding of Al-Quran. – Fadley Faisal
