Some 23 individuals were rounded up by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officers during an operation dubbed Operasi Jenggo SB.
Drug paraphernalia and syabu weighing 0.33 grammes were also confiscated during the raid.
The operation was conducted in 10 locations in the Temburong District. Four raids were conducted in RPN Kampong Rataie, two in Kampong Barang Tuau and the others in Kampong Bokok, Kampong Parit Belayang, Kampong Paya Begangan and Kampong Sumbilling Baru.
The individuals believed to be involved in drug abuse and trafficking comprised 21 locals aged between 28 and 70 and two permanent residents aged 40 and 55.
The individuals have also been identified as being related to the drug trafficking syndicate in Kampong Ayer.
The case will be investigated under Section 6(a), Chapter 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) for the possession of controlled drugs, Section 6(b), for consuming controlled drugs and Section 7, for the possession of drug paraphernalia.
Five of the apprehended individuals were prosecuted in the Magistrate’s Court on August 16 and 19.
They were fined and faced imprisonment of between 11 months and four years. – Lyna Mohamad
