A joint operation led by the Enforcement Section of the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) and supported by other enforcement agencies revealed that 23 foreigners were allegedly residing in the country with expired employment passes. The operation, codenamed ‘Operasi Bersepadu Kabat 83/2024’, targeted several houses and rental units in Mukim Berakas ‘A’, as stated in a press release from the INRD.
During the operation, inspections were conducted on 72 foreigners. Among them, 23 were apprehended for allegedly overstaying, violating Cap 15 (I) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17. Additionally, two of these individuals were believed to have breached Regulation 16 (2) of the Immigration Regulations, Chapter 17, by not working for their original employer.
Other violations identified during the operation included 31 offences under the Labour Department, three under the BSB Municipal Department, and two under the Department of Electrical Services for unauthorised wiring. The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) also participated in the operation.
The INRD stated that this operation is part of their ongoing efforts to combat activities that violate the country’s laws and regulations.
