Twenty weighing machines were found to be non-compliant with the Weights and Measures Act 1983, Chapter 151, as well as the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994, Chapter 3 (1) and (2), during a recent inspection at 40 fish cages in the Brunei-Muara and Belait districts.
The operation was led by the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), in collaboration with other government agencies.
Of the 20 weighing machines, five were found to have expired registration periods, while 15 were unregistered.
The owners of the weighing machines have been issued Seizure Notices and are required to report to the SDT Unit Office within seven working days from the date of issuance to resolve the matter.
The confiscated weighing machines will be returned to the owners for trade purposes after they comply with the regulatory requirements for renewal or registration.
The operation aims to enforce the Weights and Measures Act 1983, ensuring that all weights and measures machines used for business activities are registered and verified by the SDT Unit.
